Everybody Loves Music
During 2016, whilst working full-time as a social worker, Lizzie Hart founded Everybody Loves Music and began offering music mentoring sessions on a part-time basis. Although Lizzie was only able to give ELM a few hours a week, it became clear to her that there was scope to merge her passion for working with young people along with her love for music production.
Music production sessions are a fantastic way of providing an area of interest for young people and can be used to encourage them, whilst offering new skills, forming positive relationships, all whilst gaining trust and confidence – Creating an environment that is comfortable and allows young people to express themselves, disclose their worries, and open topics of discussion around life, relationships, future, personal growth and more.
Having been a resident, youth worker, and then a social worker within the community of Enfield for 15 years, Lizzie established an excellent professional network with young people, their parents, youth provisions, educational provisions, children’s and housing services. Because of this, she was able to identify that there is a very real need and desire for a project like ELM.
During December 2021 Everybody Loves Music became a community interest company which now works with a wide range of young people, aged 10-30, and aims to develop skills that will enable them to give back to their local communities in the long term. ELM now has a growing team of 18+ members, originating from the communities in which we serve. All of whom share the same vision and aspiration with regard to ELM – seeing it as a unique and rewarding opportunity to help some of the most vulnerable young people within their own communities.
ELM’s mission is to offer both music production workshops alongside social work knowledge and intervention; to provide an all-inclusive program that looks at developing young people’s music skills, life skills, and personal skills; whilst promoting welfare and protection from harm, enabling young people to have the best life outcomes.
The same young people that take part in our programmes are joining our team as trainee-support workers under our ‘Worth-it-Work-it’ programme, where they become involved in the development and delivery of the project, ensuring that the work we are delivering is current and relevant to the young people we work with. ELM offers training, volunteering, and employment opportunities, giving the young people that are actively engaged in the program, the potential to build on their existing skills, (whether that be music related or other) whilst becoming active members of the Everybody Loves Music team!
ELM currently works in partnership with, Christian Action Housing, West Lea School, Hertfordshire, and Enfield Children & Young People Services.
ELM is currently commissioned by Christian Action Housing, Enfield & Hertfordshire councils, and receives funding and support from; Focusrite Plc, Youth Music, Enfield Neighbourhood Fund, Tesco Community Grants, the European Union, and the Asda Foundation!
